Bone Meal Vs Fish Bone Meal

Posted December 28, 2013

What's the difference between bone meal and fish bone meal?  Well there isn't much as far as nutrients.  Fish Bone Meal obviously comes from bones of fish.  Fish Bone Meals NPK is 3-16-0 and of course smells a little fishy.  We have seen that it breaks down slightly faster in the soil, making it more readily available for plants to take up.  Bone Meals NPK is 3-15-0, so its Phosphorous is just a little lower than fish bone meal, not enough to make much difference.  Regular Bone Meal last in the soil a little longer then Fish Bone Meal.  Both have some nitrogen, calcium, trace elements, and generous amounts of phosphorous. They can be substituted for each other.  Both can be used on many crops & flowers including: flowering plants, perennials, bulbs, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, fruiting trees and even in compost heaps.
