Castor bean is a fast-growing, dramatic ornamental plant known for its huge tropical-looking leaves, bold stems, and unusual spiny seed pods. Plants can grow 6–10 feet tall or more in a single season, making them a striking choice for the back of a garden, along fences, or as a living privacy screen.

Plant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Soaking the seeds for 12–24 hours before planting can help speed germination. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil and give plants plenty of room to grow.
