Egyptian Spinach (often called Molokhia, Corchorus olitorius) is a warm-season leafy green traditionally grown in Egypt and throughout theMiddle East, Africa, and Asia. It produces upright plants with abundant, tender green leaves that can be harvested young for cooking. The leavesare commonly used fresh or dried in soups, stews, and sauces. Egyptian Spinach is heat-tolerant and performs especially well in warm weather.
Days to Maturity:
50–60 days from planting to first harvest, depending on growing conditions and whether leaves are harvested young. For continuous production, harvest the tender leaves regularly.
Growing notes:
Planting: After danger of frost, when soil is consistently warm.
Sun: Full sun.
Spacing: About 6–12 inches apart.
Harvest: Pick young leaves and tender shoots as needed.
Height: Typically 3–6 feet if allowed to mature fully.
Best growing temperature: Warm to hot conditions.
