What is Neem Seed Meal?

Posted July 16, 2013

Neem Seed Meal is the remaining material from Azadiracta indica after the oil is extracted and then becomes a well-decomposed soil amendment used by gardeners as compost for plants requiring rich nutrients.  It stimulates growth of all plants and microbes in compost and soil.  Neem Seed Meal is an excellent soil conditioner, feeding the microorganisms in the soil.  While boosting the soils activity, this helps fight off many bad soil fungus problems.  When  is used as a soil amendment, fungus gnats can be controlled and it's effective against root knot nematodes.  Neem Seed Meal is an excellent source of macro and micro nutrients as well.  Neem Seed Meal can be made into a tea by placing 1-2 cups (any more can burn)  of meal into 5 gallons of water and let steep (percolating is best) for 3 days and then used as a foliar fertilizer spray.   Using Neem tea can help control spider mites when used weekly.  Neem Seed Meal can be added to potting mixes, but shouldn't be used for indoor plants because it will put off an odd odor.
