Slow release N-P-K Slow-release organic fertilizers from dungeness crab, a by product of shellfish processing, and is air-dried at low heat and crushed for a uniform easy-to-apply amendment. Studies have found that chitin provides a source of carbon and nitrogen for microbial growth in soil. Materials high in chitin are used widely in Asia for their nematocidal properties. Beneficial chitin-feeding microbes increase in the soil until the chitin supply diminishes and then they move on to nematodes (eggs and adults) which are also primarily composed of chitin. Nematode reduction takes 4-8 months and is helped by warm, moist soil conditions and ample nitrogen. Apply 500-2000 lb/acre or 12-15 lb/1,000 sq ft.
